The Fabricated Burglary

The occupants of the risk address obtained a Home Contents insurance policy the day after a burglary at their address. Their policy included two high value watches that were stolen in the burglary. Two months after policy inception, another burglary was reported to have occurred at the house by the occupants, the circumstances identical to the first burglary and included the theft of the two high value watches. The two parties then lodged an insurance claim, initially denying any previous incidents at the house. When presented with the facts, the occupants admitted another burglary had occurred. Their claim was declined and the matter referred to the West Australian Police for prosecution.
